PGEC research takes place at the Albany, California Location of the USDA Agricultural Research Service. The city of Albany is adjacent to Berkeley and our site is about 3 miles from the UC Berkeley Campus (driving directions). The Albany site also houses the Western Regional Research Center, Pacific West Area offices, and the Forest Service. As members of a larger campus, there are many shared facilities and social events.
The eight PGEC labs and equipment are spread amongst four floors in one wing of the building. There are approximately 90 full and part-time employees: 8 principal investigators, 35 post-doctoral researchers, 15 staff research associates and lab assistants, 6 UC Berkeley graduate students, 5 administrative staff, 15 undergraduate lab and administrative staff, and 3 greenhouse staff. Employees have access to shared computer resources, an on-site library, SEM facilities, DNA sequencers and other equipment.
